SDI Info:
General HDcctv (SDI) transmission distances:
RG59 cable = 300ft
RG6 cable = 800 ft
RG11 cable = 1000ft

HDcctv (High Definition Closed Circuit Television) is an open industrial standard for transmitting uncompressed high-definition digital video over point-to-point coaxial cable links for video surveillance applications. HDcctv uses the SMPTE HD-SDI protocol and can transmit 720p or 1080p video over at least 100 m of RG59 cable.

The HDcctv Alliance is a non-profit, global consortium that develops and promotes the HDcctv standard. Advantages over IP video surveillance are claimed to include low latency and zero configuration.  Source: Wikipedia

IN SUMMARY: Simply put, HDcctv is nothing more than an acronym for "High-definition CCTV" products that use HD-SDI (serial digital interface) broadcast transmission technology.  One of the most important features of HDcctv (HD-SDI) is the ability to transmit full HD video through a standard coaxial cable without video compression. Unlike IP technology, no networking skills are required on the part of the installer.

HDcctv protocols determine whether the HDcctv Camera and DVR can 'talk' to each other.
Protocol 1 (720p 30/25), Protocol 2 (720p 60/50), Protocol 3 (1080p 30/25), Protocol 4 (1080i 60/50)

IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE ABOUT HIGH DEFINITION SYSTEMS: Besides HD-SDI (a long standing broadcast standard for digital HD) as of 2015 new analog HD technologies have surpassed the SDI equipment in popularity due to lower costs and ease of handling.  Anyone looking to purchasing HD cameras and related products should also consider AHD or TVI since security manufacturers are supporting less of the SDI equipment than they previously had. To view the new analog HD systems simply type in AHD  ...or TVI and you will see all the related cameras, DVR's and associated equipment.
